As we all are aware of the fact that due to DTH Cable/ Set up box we are able to access the channels on TV and for that we doesn’t need to have internet. DTH i.e. Direct to Home is only accessible to the TV sets through satellite.
Now there can be a chance to watch live TV on mobile phone without internet which is termed as DTM i.e. Direct to Mobile. Currently, the reach of TV is limited to around 210-220 million homes but there are around 800 million smartphones users in the country, which is expected to reach 1 billion by 2026. As per reports over 80% of internet traffic is videos, which makes the smartphones a perfect candidate for broadcast delivery along with TV.
Its main aim is to utilize this for content delivery which is educational and other necessary content like emergency alert system which is to watch live news easily without the help of internet. Though nowadays we invest a lot in buying data pack mainly for to watch videos and for that it needs internet. So, Indian government is soon going to take a revolutionary step into this matter. Last June, IIT Kanpur published a whitepaper on the DTM broadcast and 5G convergence roadmap for India. IIT Kanpur has partnered with the telecom startup Saankhya Labs for hardware requirements. As per Department of Telecommunications (DOT), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) as well as IIT Kanpur are working on details, govt. officials are aware of the matter said.
They said there will be a meeting about this matter with all the officials including Tele-Communication Ministry of the information and broadcasting, Telecom Operators Representative they will discuss about the implementations possibilities and way outs. So we can expect to access TV channels in our smartphones without any data pack.
