Amazon has announced a hardware event to launch a new Alexa feature on 26th of Feb 2025:

An Amazon spokesperson confirmed that this event will release feature news from the Alexa team. Additionally, amazon’s senior vice president of devices and services will present an indicated in the invitations and sent to the media, the company is working diligently to launch a new version of its voice activated Alexa software, which will incorporate more advanced artificial intelligence features. The effort comes in response to growing competition in the generative AI space from rivals like OpenAI’s, ChatGPT, Google, Gemini, Microsoft, Copilot and Claude. The chatbot developed by AI and startup anthropic which has secured substantial funding from Amazon and other investors.

Amazon executives have set a Go/No-go meeting on 14th of Feb 2025 to discuss the public release of the upgraded Alexa. Reuters citing sources familiar with the situation, the company first showcased a revamped Alexa in 2023, and featuring a live interaction between an Amazon executive and the voice assistant as part of a new features called “Let’s Chat” which has yet to be released, after that event Amazon provided limited information about future Alexa updates and did not hold its usual fall event in 2024, where it typically unveils new products. 

Amazon’s CEO informed investors that the new Alexa could be launched soon and note that the company is working on rearchitecting the brain of Alexa with a new set of foundation models. Since past 2022, Amazon has been on a cost cutting campaign, which includes Alexa, has faced multiple challenges and its debut in 2014.

Amazon has expected that Alexa has not become the revenue generator, although hundreds of millions of customers own Alexa-enabled devices, Amazon has struggled to find a way to monetize them effectively. The company has historically released devices at very low prices to promote its other products and services, but this strategy has not yielded the success Amazon anticipated, resulting in losses of ten billions of dollars in its devices business.
