Amazon is putting more intelligence into Alexa.

Amazon faced a considerable amount of loss due to Alexa, but, to assume Alexa as a failure is completely unfounded, as most purchases made on Amazon are done through it. Different from the rest Amazon saw the potential to actually build a perfect front for the retail business, with the digital assistant helping and reminding people to buy essential things from a trusted source within their day. This generative AI assistant called Alexa+, works on Alexa devices, smartphone app and the Amazon website. Amazon wasn't the first one, so it had no game in stacking up against Apple, Google, and Microsoft, as it was more of a retailer than a tech company.

• Microsoft really had much more potential than the others due to Cortana effort named after Halo's AI character.
• Apple could have also done something good, as it marketed Siri wonderfully. But they didn't fund Siri's advancement, while Amazon shipped product after product that used Alexa.
• Google didn't slow down, turning hard towards Gemini for the Pixel smartphones. 

Unlike, Cortana and Siri, Alexa is more of a web front end than true AI and its usefulness has been proved.
In the coming weeks Alexa moves to Generative AI, which had been promised in 2023, but it turned out to be more difficult than thought. The result of a huge improvement in this technology class, will be featured only for Prime members, so it is not truly free. Alexa+ allows one to jump from scenes to scenes in movies you own or rent on Amazon’s video service. Unique playlists on Amazon Music can be asked for, and better answers will be provided than just a reading of a web page that Alexa would have previously defaulted to.

In Alexa+, natural language can be used for commands, which Alexa lacked. Complex and multi-step directions can be given based on historical knowledge. For example, you can ask it to book the same place for your anniversary that you booked last year, purchase tickets at specified prices, or even recommend and contact repair services for something broken. Alexa+ can show any images of people who have been frequenting your property, how often your kids are actually walking, with the Rink security cameras.

Alexa+ has some quality problems as AI developers aren’t focusing enough on quality yet. So be careful about taking everything Alexa+ says as fact. There will likely be some issues with third-party applications until they become fully integrated. But this is a huge change towards how we look at digital assistants going forward.
