DeepSeek is facing multiple security vulnerabilities that could put users’ privacy at risk. As the mobile security firm, NowSecure reports, DeepSeek R1- DeepSeek’s iOS app- has several flaws, including the weaken of key security protections and the use of outdated encryption methods. The concerns increased after the discovery of the database containing sensitive user information, including chat logs and secret keys that were left exposed without authentication, which meant the data could be accessed easily without needing credentials. This raised concerns over how the company was handling users’ personal data.
One of the main issues reported was the failure of app to use Apple’s built-in App Transport security (ATS), a system designed to ensure that personal data is transmitted securely over encrypted channels. Rather DeepSeek has completely disabled this protection, allowing unencrypted data to be sent over the internet.
As reports explains, that even seemingly harmless user data separately, when collected over time, can be used to identify individuals. This raises serious question about how DeepSeek handles data security. The reports also warn, that not only the data collected in the DeepSeek iOS but, related data collected from millions of apps and can be purchased easily, combined and then correlated to quickly de-anonymize users.
Considering the realm, NowSecure is urging business, government agencies, and individuals to relook on the app usage until significant changes are made.
