Facebook has updated change in its live video storage policy, meaning that the live video will no longer be stored for long term, as it will be deleted automatically after 30 days from the day of upload. This represents a significant turn around from the previous policy, where live videos were saved permanently, unless manual deletion actions by end users.

In terms of the impact on the current ones, if a live video has been broadcast for more than 30 days, it will be taken down from Facebook. However, Facebook will send out notifications to its users through email and in-app pop-ups regarding the deletion of the older videos. The old content on the platform will be gradually deleted in the next few months. Users will also get the option to download or transfer their older content within 90 days. The videos can be downloaded on their devices or transferred to one of the cloud storage devices, such as Google Drive or Dropbox, another interesting option is the conversion of a user's live video into a new reel, these reels can be shared on Facebook and will be showcased on the user's profile.

Meta is now deploying new avenues to enable users to save live videos from their profiles or pages that they have once already posted. One can download individual live videos by accessing the profile or page's tab: Videos or Live, choosing the video to save in their device and clicking the Download video option. It will allow users to download a series of videos at once from the activity log or use the bulk download feature to select a date range and save videos directly to their device or computer. Beginning on February 2025, Facebook user's page or profiles can replay, download or share newly created live broadcast videos for 30 days after their creation date, before they get automitacally delete from the Facebook. Previously owned videos was just be stored indefinitely, the social media organization post on a blog.

Many experts believe that Meta wants to capitalize on short videos, saying that its key competitor in the sector is also facing great difficulty in the main market, which is United States. This shift work to attract user participation in short form content much more than long form live broadcasts.
