Reliance Jio demonstrates its satellite- based gigabit internet in India

Reliance Jio has successfully demonstrated India’s first satellite-based gigabit broadband service, named JioSpaceFiber. This service aims to provide high-speed internet to areas in India that were previously unreachable. The new technology was demonstrated by the company at India Mobile Congress on Friday. While Jio promises low-latency internet, chances are that its JioSpaceFiber internet will have a much higher distance from the planet, and therefore, radio signals take much longer to travel the distance. Jio says it is partnering with Luxembourg-based satellite communications company SES to provide medium Earth orbit (MEO) satellite internet. The service will be available across the length and breadth of the country at highly affordable prices, the company has said.

Previously they have been using Leo satellite now with time it is the need to upgrade for better services so they are to opt for MEO satellite. And one advantage of an MEO solution over an LEO one is that the former, in theory, can cover a larger area of the globe with much fewer satellites.
